The ‘Jungle Man’ of Rajasthan: Bhuvnesh Ojha is transforming deserts green with 30,000 trees.

In Rajasthan’s sun-burned plains, where the earth cracks under the unrelenting heat and dry winds sweep across endless stretches of sand, most people see desolation. However, Bhuvnesh Ojha sees potential in every arid area—the promise of life, shade, and rebirth.

Ojha, who is referred to as the “Jungle Man of Rajasthan,” has devoted his life to turning wastelands into flourishing ecosystems, demonstrating that, with the right care, even the most difficult soil can provide hope.

A Single Tree to Thirty Thousand
A lifelong dedication to the environment quickly developed from what began as a modest attempt to alleviate his family’s water problems. Equipped only with a resolve and a vision for transformation, Bhuvnesh started planting trees one by one. Over time, his modest act of fortitude became a movement, demonstrating the power of perseverance and determination.

In order to restore equilibrium to the delicate ecosystem and withstand Rajasthan’s severe climate, he has planted more than 30,000 native trees today.

The establishment of the Pukaar Foundation
In order to empower communities through environmental stewardship and reforest deforested areas, Bhuvnesh established the Pukaar Foundation in 2013, a youth-led project. An energetic grassroots movement that combines ecology and social impact has emerged from what started as a small local drive.

The foundation’s efforts have produced outstanding results in just 12 years:

  • Over 30,000 trees were planted in Rajasthan.
  • Eight thick forests in Miyawaki that are home to over 3,500 native species
  • Innovative water-harvesting techniques have saved two crore liters of rainwater.
  • 600 farmers were given training in natural farming and permaculture.
  • A network of more than 800 enthusiastic volunteers that is expanding

Converting Ecosystems from Deserts
Every project funded by the Pukaar Foundation is based on the notion that community involvement is the first step towards sustainability. Ojha’s group is revitalizing rural livelihoods in addition to greening the land by establishing microclimates, enhancing biodiversity, and restoring soil health.

Their forests have turned into havens for pollinators and birds, demonstrating that life can flourish even in areas that have long been written off as wastelands.

A Tradition of Green Hope
The story of Bhuvnesh Ojha serves as a reminder that change frequently starts with a single act of faith, or in his case, a single sapling. His narrative serves as a living example of how one person’s vision can motivate a whole generation to embrace hardship, grow, and rethink what is possible.

Like the trees he plants, his legacy keeps growing—quietly, tenaciously, and vibrantly.
