Costa Rica was honored as the Best International Destination at the Healthy Places 2025 Awards, sponsored by Men’s Health and Women’s Health in Spain.

The award acknowledges destinations that foster comprehensive wellness, active lifestyles, engagement with nature, and healthy living, and will be valid through the end of 2026.

The awards ceremony took place in Spain in December and underscored Costa Rica as an exemplary destination for relaxation and attaining both physical and mental equilibrium.

William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism, stated that the recognition is attributed to the Pura Vida lifestyle, rich biodiversity, and outdoor recreational opportunities.

This accolade underscores our experiences and the splendor of our national parks as foundational elements of a robust tourism industry, he stated.

The award’s evaluation criteria include engaging in physical activity within natural environments, ensuring adequate rest, practicing digital disconnection, and maintaining a balanced diet composed of local products.

Spain ranks as the sixth greatest source market for tourists visiting Costa Rica. In 2025, over 50,000 Spanish tourists visited the territory.

During the same period, Costa Rica received more than 400,000 European tourists, according to data from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.
